Man on ganja charge granted bail

A man who claimed that he was once employed to a bauxite company was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 for allegedly attempting to export over 20 pounds of ganja inside fried fish. The accused man, Jermaine Salmon, was alleged to be an accomplice of Aneita Davis, who was arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport, on January 28, with 20 1/4 pounds of ganja. Both were charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and taking steps to export ganja. They appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. Salmon pleaded not guilty, however, Davis pleaded guilty to all charges. They are both from St Elizabeth addresses. vegetable matter According to the allegations, Davis was destined for Trinidad when her luggage was searched. Items of clothing were seen and a foil paper containing fried fish. The fish were checked and according to the allegations, inside them were vegetable matter resembling ganja. The allegations further indicated that Salmon was aware of this criminal activity and that he was the one to carry her from St Elizabeth to the airport. However, the accused man's lawyer denied this claim by telling the court that his client was given $7,000 to transport Davis to her destination and that he was not aware of the ganja nor the accused woman's intentions. Davis was remanded and Salmon was granted bail and ordered to visit the Santa Cruz Police Station twice per week. Both persons should return to court on February 12.
