Gang leader turns to Christ

Assistant pastor Dwight Angus was a gang leader before he surrendered his life to Christ in 1996. He was one of those individuals known for smoking , drinking and having several girls. "I am a graduate of Glenmuir High School , I did a stint at Scotia Bank but I lost the job. I went into gangs and was a part of the brains in some of the gangs. I was the one who did a lot of forgery and stuff like that. I was basically what you would call an area don," said Angus. However, all that changed when he surrendered his life to Christ almost 24 years ago; and Angus is currently serving as an assistant pastor at the Freedom Hall Church of God at Race Track in Clarendon. He told THE STAR that his salvation came following a dream he had, in which he reportedly got a call from the Lord. "I got a call from the Lord while I was in my room. I experienced one of those things which you would call an epiphany. Out of that experience I was shown a vision where I saw in the spirit that I was killed and my spirit itself was floating. I saw the dead yard, so to speak, and persons were speaking about me," noted the assistant pastor. people were suffering Angus pointed out that in his experience he saw where people were suffering; and he got a glimpse of a beautiful building and was told in the vision to choose between life and death. But he decided to choose life. He explained that throughout it he was unable to move and the room in which he was, was brightly lit as if a bright light was turned on. "When I decided to choose life I found that I was able to get up off the bed; so I knelt and I confessed my sins and asked the Lord for forgiveness and for Him to enter my life. At that point I decided that I would do whatever He asked me to do," confessed Angus. The church leader declared that at that time he felt as if a thousand pounds literally came off him and from then on he started to see life differently. After starting his new life, Angus said he just could not keep his experience to himself and so he started going around spreading the news to friends and other persons. Part of the news he said he mentioned to persons was that God is real and that they should also surrender their life to Him. "I also encouraged those persons who were Christians to continue, because the Lord is real and He is coming back," said Angus. created a stir The former gang leader reported that some of his former gang members found it hard to believe that he had surrendered his life to the Lord. He said his new-found life in Jesus created a stir among persons who knew him as some persons thought he had gone crazy while others believed what happened to him was real. "Everybody wanted to see me to see really if this was happening. Persons were saying, 'Well, Angus can change, then so can I'," said the preacher. He said that after his conversion he was able to go to several places where other Christians would not, or were afraid to, go. Angus said he visited gambling dens and other places that could be easily regarded as places of sin, to witness to those who were without Christ. Out of this he said that many persons surrendered their life to Christ. Married to Ann-Marie Angus, the dedicated servant of God said he was ordained as a minister in his church in 1999. Prior to being appointed he served as a Sunday school teacher, youth president and men's president for his church. He currently has responsibilities for the youth, Sunday school and men's departments at his church. "My life with the Lord has been a most fulfilling one. In terms of my general day-to-day operation, it has changed to the effect that where I used to tell lies, cheat, have dozens of women and deal with things from a personal physical standpoint, there is no need to do that. I now have a purposeful life," testified Minister Angus.
